PaedDr. Jiří Luska, CSc. Round of application process 1. Annotation The Music Theory and Pedagogy programme is designed as a non-specialized study programme without. The standard length of study is four years. The study plan is designed to stimulate the student to study and research. The curriculum is conceived within the ECTS credit system that is implemented in the UP. It contains compulsory and compulsory optional subjects whose composition guarantees the acquisition of deep knowledge, abilities and skills in narrowly specialized subjects associated with B subjects category and the broader scientific basis represented by A subjects category. The study plan also includes the obligation to undertake a research internship, to carry out scientific creative activities such as publishing and lectures at conferences. An integral part of the study plan is solving scientific projects and grants and direct teaching in Bc and Mgr. programme at the student's training workplace. Creative activities can also be performed in the form of artistic performances and outputs. The distribution of credits for each activity during the four years of study is as follows: 5 A compulsory subjects, each 7 credits - 35 credits 3 B compulsory-optional subjects, each 7 credits - 21 credits Teaching activities - 14 credits Scientific and research internship 20 credits Publications and active participation at the conferences - 86 credits Defence of the dissertation thesis research project - 10 credits Dissertation thesis concepting and preparation - 40 credits Other expertise activities - 14 credits Total - 240 credits The programme design respects the requirements of the Strategic plan of education and the educational, scientific, research, developmental and innovational, artistic and other creative activities of tertiary education for the period 2016-2020. Long-term plan of the activity of Palacky University in Olomouc and Long-term plan of the Faculty of Education in Olomouc. It is in agreement with the Education Policy Strategy of the Czech Republic. Requirements for admission For the study of the DSP Music Theory and Pedagogy, the applicants who meet the statutory condition of the graduation of the Master's or follow-up Master's degree programmes in the field of music education will be admitted. Furher, the graduates of musicology or music art programmes who have graduated in an accredited module of pedagogical propedeutics. Another condition is successful passing the entrance exam, proving the prerequisites for scientific work in the field and the necessary language competencies. Entrance exam requirements: - to submit a list of published and unpublished studies, professional articles, active participation in scientific seminars and conferences, - to present a written proposal of the title, structure, objectives and methods of the intended work, - to present a list of studied professional and scientific literature, - to present a basic comprehensive overview of the field of music theory and pedagogy, - to specify the range of personal professional interest in the selected music pedagogical discipline, to define briefly the project of the intended dissertation according to the outline, - a specification of the study focus on specific scientific issues of the applicant, - an overview of the previous elaboration of the selected issue (primarily an overview of the sources and literature for the study of the given issue), - to demonstrate understanding of the content of a foreign-language professional text in English or German. The study will be attended by the graduates of the follow-up master's programmes or master's programmes in Teaching Music Education for Secondary and Primary Schools and Teaching Musical Instrument and Singing. The graduates of Musicology and Music Arts or similar study programmes in the field of music have to demonstrate the completion of the subjects of pedagogical-psychological basic subjects and music within the university lifelong learning programme. Graduates' profile The graduate of the Doctoral Study Programme Music Theory and Pedagogy will be able to perform independent creative and scientific work. They will be equipped with such broad knowledge in the field of music theory and music pedagogy and a broad area of related scientific disciplines to be able to eruditely achieve generalizing conclusions in the area of the study of theory of music and music pedagogical phenomena. This competence is demonstrated by writing a doctoral dissertation which will provide new scientific knowledge within the field. The graduate of the doctoral study programme Music theory and pedagogy will be able: - to approach the topic of their dissertation work systematically and interdisciplinary, - to present, critically reflect and interpret current trends in music theory, music pedagogy and related musicological disciplines in the Czech Republic and abroad, particularly with regard to their professional profile, - in the context of the development of related scientific disciplines and with regard to their professional profile to interpret, argue and apply contemporary scientific knowledge, - to independently conceive, implement and present scientific research in the field of music culture research while maintaining ethical principles of scientific work, - to present, argue and defend the results of their own scientific research activities and confront their conclusions with the outputs of the scientific work of Czech and foreign researchers, through publishing activities in reviewed and impacted scientific periodicals of domestic and foreign origin, - to participate in scientific and research projects and grant activities carried out within the framework of cooperating scientific teams, - to communicate the subject of their expertise in two world languages at C1 level, in a second foreign language at the level of min. B1, - to implement the issues of their expertise into higher education, - to publish in reviewed professional media and lecture at the professional conferences, - to prepare and implement sectoral scientific and educational projects, - to design international scientific grant projects. Employability prospect The most general aim of the study is to develop specialized and highly academically erudite students for theoretical, research and professional activities in the field of scientific reflection of selected segments of the Czech and world music culture as well as mechanisms of the intergenerational and intercultural transfer of music cultural heritage. The goal of the curriculum is to prioritize the student's scientific thinking towards understanding of music reality as a complex whole whose theoretical acquirement requires a high degree of abstraction, ability to assess the observed phenomena both in their specific and relatively isolated and often necessarily opaque dimensions and in a broad interdisciplinary complementary concept. The aim of the study is to create such professional skills and habits that the graduate will apply in research, organizational and publishing activities in institutions focusing on research in the field of music culture and education and on animation activities in the field of music cultural heritage in domestic and international contexts. |
