Annotation Take your legal studies to the next level with our Master’s in International and European Law, taught entirely in English. This programme gives you the chance to deepen your expertise in international and EU law while exploring the political and integration processes shaping Europe today. You will gain a clear understanding of how international law interacts with national legal systems, dive into the foundations and history of European integration, and study the institutions and functioning of the European Union. Alongside compulsory courses, you can personalise your degree with a wide range of optional modules – including classes in German and French – tailored to your interests and future career goals. This specialisation is designed for students eager to become confident legal professionals, ready to engage with international challenges and make their mark in the European legal sphere. Requirements for admission Admission to study of the follow-up Master´s study programme in International and European Law requires the candidate to have completed at least a bachelor degree in law or related area. The Faculty will choose the applicants based on the documents that the applicants will attach to the application form. In order to verify the facts presented in the documents, the motivation, interest or knowledge of the applicant, the evaluation committee may request a distance interview (via skype or other appropriate form). Candidates submit an electronic application and attach the required documents: 1) structured CV 2) certified copy of the diploma (at least Bachelor degree in law or related field) 3) official listing of the results of the previous study (or a certified copy) or Diploma Supplement 4) letter of motivation 5) letter of recommendation - from a teacher from previous university studies,previous of current employer to demonstrate the skills, interest and motivation of the applicant 6) certificate of English-language proficiency (TOEFL, IELTS, CAE, CPE) at least at B2 CEFR level, or a document certifying applicant's previous English language courses or studies in English 7) ID or passport - copy of the page with photo and personal data Documents stated in points 2) and 3) (accompanied by a certified translation to Czech, Slovak or English, if not originally in one of these languages) must be submitted by the deadline (15 June of the respective year) also as officially authenticated hard copies to the International Relations Office of the Faculty of Law: International Relations Office, Faculty of Law, Palacký University Olomouc, 17. Listopadu 8, 771 11 Olomouc, Czech Republic The condition is also valid for potential graduates of universities and for applicants who have reported in previous years. An applicant who fails to deliver the documents specified above within the specified deadline (until 15 June 2026 inclusive) will be required to amend his submission and a reasonable period of time will be set for such an amendment. Information on the admission procedure: The Faculty accepts only electronically submitted applications. The applications will be accepted until the maximum capacity (30 students) is reached or until June 15 of repective year. The administrative fee linked to the application: 1,800 CZK Payment for the admission process is a required step for successful submission of the application form. The preferred method of payment is online via card. Applicants have to pay the fee for the procedures related to the admission process immediately after selection of a study programme or field of study. Information regarding the method of payment and payment details are in the online application form in the Payment Overview part. The fee is not refundable. An applicant who fails to pay or incorrectly or incompletely submits his payment (without variable symbol) within the deadline (15 June of respective year) will not be transferred to the admission procedure database. Candidates will be assessed and their admission will be decided individually in the order in which their application has been received with full documentation and proof of payment of the administrative fee for the admission procedure. More information on: http://studylaw.upol.cz/en/master.html http://studylaw.upol.cz/en/master.html Medical fitness requirements Not required Graduates' profile Graduates of the master's degree programme in International and European Law will be equipped with the following knowledge and skills: A. Complex knowledge of the basic system of international and European law Each graduate will be required to complete advanced courses in European institutional and material law, as well as international law (both public and private). This allows them to comprehensively understand the structure of these disciplines, their relationships and effects on national law. The courses will not be conceived only theoretically, but will also include seminar lessons that will lead students to practical application of international and European law to specific cases. B. Special and professional knowledge and skills in the field of international and European law Upon completion of the general foundation courses, the student will be able to choose from a selection of optional courses that are focused on individual specialized areas of international and European law. The choice of specialized subjects will allow the student to focus more on the field of international law or more on the field of European law, or a combination of both. This will make it possible to acquire expertise with regard to the future career after completing the program. The graduate of this program will also have special knowledge in the field of international and European law with an emphasis on the political dimension of European integration. C. Language skills and competences Since the entire program will be conducted in English, the graduate will acquire specialized knowledge in this language. In addition, the teaching of another world language (French and German) will be offered in the context of optional courses, focusing on international and European law. This linguistic knowledge is essential in the international legal field for legal practice. D. Professional research and research knowledge and skills The graduate will gain knowledge of existing bibliographic and other professional databases in the field of international and European law and the skills to search, process professional information and work with them in solving specific assignments in the framework of teaching and writing diploma thesis. Employability prospect To complete the programme International and European Law, students must successfully complete all compulsory courses and sufficient number of optional courses to receive a total of 120 credits. After that, they are required to successfully pass the final state examination in area of International Law and European Law and defend the diploma thesis. Regulated occupation This study programme is not a required qualification for any regulated profession. Possible job positions The graduate of this study programme follows carrer mainly in central bodies of state administration, international organizations, institutions of the European Union, private and non-profit sector (international non-governmental organizations), where specialized knowledge of international and European law is required, including implementation and transformation processes of these legal branches into the national legal order and the political overlaps in these disciplines. During the course of study, the students can choose to focus through the optional subjects either in the direction of European law or more in the direction of international law. A great advantage for graduates in the field of study will be not only good knowledge of the field of international and European law itself, but also excellent language readiness in these fields. |
