Additional informations: | Annotation The study program provides students to gain knowledge and acquire skills in geoinformatics, spatial technologies and geovisualization. Students learn the fundamental topics of goeinformation science and technolgies, mainly approaches to a digital representation of reality and practices with main geoinformation technologies (GIS, remote sensing, GPS, spatial statistics, digital cartography, etc.), programming for GIS, map compilation and applications in geosciences. In geovisualization, the emphasis is given on production of thematic maps within GIS and DTP. Requirements for admission Entrance examinamion is in the range of secondary school curriculum of geography. It examines knowledge from geography and the quality of written performance through open questions in the written test. Prerequisites for university studies are determined from the applicant's application. Provided that the number of applicants does not exceed the capacity of the field, applicants can be admitted without entrance examinations. https://www.prf.upol.cz/en/study-at-the-faculty/ Programme teaching goals The study program prepares the higly educated expertts in geospatial technologies and geovisualization with broad knowledge and abilities of GIS and other geotechnologies. They can apply their knowledge and skill in solving real spatial problems in various job positions. Regarding to the bachelor thesis, the student is led by his/her tutor and other department staff and cooperating external institutions individually to a deeper study of the issue to elaborate assigned tasks in terms of methodology, critical study and use of scientific literature, to verify partial and final results and implement it into the practice. Students are encouraged to participate in discussions actively and to present comprehensible (oral and written) own knowledge. Graduates' profile The graduate can realise operative, documentation and development activities, including solving common spatial tasks using geoinformation technologies. Students will acquire the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills of particular geoinformatic and cartographic disciplines and will become familiar with the most widespread modern software products in the studied fields (geoinformatics, statistics, cartography, remote sensing, programming, etc.), topics (geometry, numerical methods, descriptive statistics), theoretical foundations of computer science, programming and programming paradigms, web technologies, database and information systems. - General knowledge of the graduate: basic overview of the development of geoinformatics in home and global society, critical thinking and professional discussion, knowledge of professional English, acquisition of presentation techniques (oral, graphic and written). - Professional theoretical knowledge of the graduate: cartographic theory, concept of geographic information systems, essence of Earth remote sensing and positioning and navigation systems, a theory of land information systems. - Professional practical skills of the graduate: modern field mapping using GPS, computer creation of thematic maps (analog and digital), control of specialised software used in GIT (GIS, remote sensing, etc.), programming for the needs of geoinformation technologies. Theoretical knowledge is linked with practical skills in the solution of semestral tasks and theses. The study develops individual thinking and creative approach of students, their responsibility for the fulfillment of individual and collective projects and students' presentation skills. In the syllabus of individual subjects, the emphasis is placed on the topics that are most demanded in practice. Employability prospect Thanks to the acquired knowledge and skills in geoinformatics and cartography, the graduate is able to participate in the geodata capturing and management, to solve spatial tasks and to solve complex types of spatial tasks focused on analyses and presentation of geodata and spatial information. The graduate is reliably employed in public administration (eg at the departments of spatial planning, environment, transport, informatics etc.), in the department of the Czech Office for Surveying, Mapping and Cadastre, in designing and planning companies, in companies specializing in cartography and geoinformatics. Possible job positions IT specialist, cartographer, spatial database manager, GIS programmer, remote sensing expert |
