Annotation The single-major study program in German Philology has a distinctive interdisciplinary character in which the studies of German language and literature are interconnected with other six classic disciplines of the humanities (history, philosophy, general and comparative linguistics, comparative religious studies, history of arts and mediaeval studies) which are studied in the German language and are mediated with all the specific information about German/Austrian history and methodology according to the respective discipline. In the first year of study, the basics of all six disciplines are taught; in the second year, the student choses one of them as their specialization. The payment for foreign Bachelor's degree programme is 2000 EUR per academic year. http://www.germanistika.upol.cz Graduates' profile The graduate acquires a profound knowledge of German language, knowledge and competency in the field of German philology at the Bachelor level and is able to study German Philology as a Master degree. They have a basic knowledge and competency in another classic field of the humanities according to their own choice; they knows the German terminology, German/Austrian history, methodology and the most recent information of the chosen scientific discipline. They have the general ability to deal with texts of all kinds, understand the context and relations, interpret them, search and sort information, understand complicated processes, especially regarding German-Czech relationships, has a general cultural overview of history, intellectual history, the culture and art of German speaking countries in comparison to the cultural history of their own national culture. Employability prospect Graduates of the Bachelor study program will be able to read and interpret German texts (including archive resources) which are part of the canon of Czech literature/history, after completing training in special skills, they will be able to work as archivists, specialized librarians (especially in libraries with German books). They will be able to work in the cultural-political sphere (journalism, publishing houses, cultural and culturally-political and culturally-educational institutes, non-profit organizations) where they differ from the competitors especially in language competency and ability of profound introspection into the problematics of Czech-German relationships. Possible job positions Graduates of the German Philology Bachelor's degree can not only manage work in journalism, publishing houses, cultural and cultural-scientific institutions, but also in all areas of the manufacturing and services as translators, interpreters, and language advisors to managers. |
